Round 3 of the Victorian Cross Country series took place at Brimbank Park over the weekend; an event that features the infamous Col de Brimbank’ – a hill climb that has tested runners ability since 1982. This 10 mile championship event is the oldest event on the Victorian XCR calendar; where all competitors are encouraged to wear their respective traditional club uniforms to celebrate the clubs heritage.
Doncaster assembled some of its finest cross country runners, with notable results in the junior ranks.
Age group stars Chow Lui and Charlotte Bassett both finished with podium finishes in the U/16 and U/18 events respectively, with Charlotte snaring gold, well over a minute ahead of her nearest competitor from Athletics Essendon.
Katie Gamble and Jessica O’Keefe both finished with top 10 performances in the U/20 and U/18 events to ensure that their respective age groups maintained their high overall ranking on the Premiership standings.
Piro Tanimoro was Doncaster’s highest place open aged athlete finishing in 10th place in the men’s championship event, which was evidently won by Olympian Craig Mottram.
Doncaster are currently 2nd overall in their respective Open age group divisions with the girls U/18 age group currently in 3rd place. Round 4 of the XCR series takes place in a fortnights time at Bundoora Park, Bundoora.
