Kate Myers

Life Membership awarded in 2007.

Kate grew up in regional Victoria where competition was scarce. In searching for a Melbourne based club to join as a second claim athlete she had the Doncaster Women's Athletic Club

recommended to her on the basis of its strength and good administration – namely Debra Tomsett. This was the early nineties when State League was at its strongest and it was almost

harder to get into the DWAC State League team as it was to get into the state team!

Kate competed at the World Junior Championships in 1994 alongside other Doncaster athletes; Natalie Harvey, Susie Power, Paul Cleary and Dion.

On moving to Melbourne in 1995 for University studies Kate competed in Doncaster colours permanently – interclub and state league. She swapped coaches to train with Tom Kelly at Doncaster

and was a regular fixture at the track between 1996 and 2002. In that time she competed at state and national level in 400m Hurdles and 800m, culminating in a trip to New Zealand in 2001 to

compete for Australia and a bronze in the 2001 National Championships 800m.

From 2003 Kate’s focus changed to being more involved in the running of the club when she joined the committee and took over from Jan Harvey as canteen manager. Kate has helped to raise

significant funds for DAC and has been involved in writing grant applications – especially to secure $60,000 of pole vault equipment from the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Kate became President of DAC in 2007 and has held that position since.
