The Doncaster Athletic Club caters for athletes of all ages. The club is based at Rieschiecks Reserve on George Street in Doncaster. Our athletes have access to free coaching, fee use of a fully equipped gymnasium and exclusive use of the track during coaching timeslots. DAC has a fun and friendly environment in which to train and compete and our members range from Olympians to social athletes who just enjoy coming along to have a run/jump/throw. The Doncaster Athletic Club competes in Athletics Victorias summer and winter competitions which includes Shield Competition (formerly Interclub) on Saturday afternoons and Cross Country during the winter months.
Why do athletics? Athletics caters for all abilities and age levels. The variety in athletics will not be beaten by any other organised sport. Where else can you turn up on a Saturday afternoon and decide whether you want to run, walk, jump, vault, hurdle or steeple! You can do all of them or just do some, you choose on the day! Having variety means its fun so getting fit and staying fit is not a drag. And you can compete at your own level, race against people running similar times.
Doncaster Athletic Club is lucky to have a pool of trained and talented volunteer coaches that our athletes can access for free. Potential members are encouraged to come to the track to speak to any of our coaches about starting training and joining in with their groups.
The facilities at Rieschiecks Reserve that are available to our members are all first class. The track is set in beautiful surrounds with Ruffey Lake Park nearby for longer runs. The track was resurfaced in early 2005. It boasts state-of-the-art synthetic surface, separate discus cage, two shot put rings, two high jump mats, pole vault facilities, long and triple jump pits, hurdles and adjustable steeple chase barriers. The gymnasium is located in the Alan Stevens Clubrooms, which are perched above the track on Muriel Green Drive. The equipment in the gym can cater for the beginner to serious gym users and is supervised by our qualified coach Adam Robertson. Adam can also provide specific training programs as well as general strength and conditioning routines for the novice.
The Doncaster Athletic Club welcomes new members, young or old, able or disabled, talented or willing to have a go! Memberships are based on the season of athletics eg. April to March.
