 National Cross Country Trials

The Australian cross country trials to select a team to attend the world championships in Poland in March were held over the weekend at Victoria's Brimbank Park.

Doncaster was represented in the Open Women's 8km race by Fiona Nash while Grace Thek lined up in the women's Under 20 6km event.  Grace finished 2nd in her race and has now been selected to represented Australia at the world championships.  This will be Grace's first full National representation.

Fiona Nash looked extremely good passing through 4km in a lead group that included former world champion Benita Willis, Zatopek winner Elouise Wellings and several national representatives.  Shortly afterwards however Fiona stepped in a hole rolling her ankle and was then forced to withdraw from the race.

Congratulations to Grace who becomes the 3rd Doncaster athlete coached by Patrick Ashkettle to make an Australian world championship team in as many years.

 Upcoming Club Events

  • Keep an eye here for details of a social golf day.  It will probably be Sunday 14 March.  All details to follow shortly.  All members and families welcome.

  • After the golf day we will organise a lawn bowls evening.  Stay tuned for details.

  • AGM and presentation of trophies - Saturday 17 April

  • Due to a bout of ill health with our wine master (Stu's wife's Dad), the bottling has been postponed until February 2010.  The club will be bottling and selling a magnificent Bleasdale Cabernet Sauvignon.  Orders will be taken in the new year and the wine bottled and delivered in February 2010.  Single bottle price is likely to be $15, half dozens for $80 and dozens for $150.
