Victorian Relay Championships:

The strength of Doncaster’s 40+ team was very evident in the Victorian Relay Championships this year. Last year we managed to win the M40 4 x 100 when two of our main contenders didn’t make it to the finish. We also won bronze in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 1500 and had no M50 teams.

This year we won gold in both the M40 4 x 100 and 4 x 400, and silver in the M50 4 x 1500. We also fielded teams in the M50 4 x 100 and 4 x 400, both finishing fourth. The M40 4 x 100 also broke the club record!

AVSL Round 6:

There was a shortage of numbers for most clubs this weekend, partly due to distance and partly to the twilight meeting on the previous Thursday. The M40 team clearly had more participants than the other age groups, but went down to Diamond Valley and Collingwood. The team is now in danger of missing the finals (top 3 have the opportunity to play off for a div 1 position next season), lying third after leading for much of the season.

Paul Mierisch and Graham Ford both participated in four events and the relay to earn more than 1000 points while Charmaine Smith was just under. Kath Gawthorn helped with the men’s relay and also broke her record in the discus.

At Casey Fields, Mark Purser shattered the M50 800 metres record with 2:27.7, while Graham Ford broke his M70 400 metres record and set one in the 100.

Next round is on Friday December 13 at Doncaster, so we are hoping for a big turnout. Unfortunately there is a Miler’s Meet the previous night. This will be the Nitro round with track events being 60 metres, 600 metres and one mile.
