Round 9 – 13/03/2021

Round 9 was a washout, but Doncaster athletes still managed to do well. It was a strange round, with some country teams doing much better than usual because they weren’t washed out. Many athletes missed their events following the washout. However, if you had pre-entered for an event which did not proceed, it will still count towards eligibility for the AVSL final.

Next week AVSL is at Doncaster and Nunawading and there is still time to enter! If you need to qualify for an event at the playoffs, you will need to go to Nunawading.

This weekend is also the round we will be using our Powerplay, doubling our ladder score, if you can enter two or even three events (even across both venues) to score points, it will help us finish the regular season on a high and give us great confidence leading into the final on the 27th

Club president Campbell McLennan has recorded a video about how important the next two weeks are for the club in our 50th anniversary year. To view the video, please follow this link to the DAC Members Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DoncasterAC/permalink/10158987327144061/?notif_id=1615711827098853&notif_t=page_post_reaction&ref=notif

We still have some athletes who need to compete one more time and some athletes who need to compete in specific events contested at the final.
To check your eligibility, go the AV results hub: https://athsvic.resultshub.com.au/?season=2020
Scroll down and under ‘Competition series’ click the blue box with AVSL written in it
When the page loads, scroll down and on the left side, click the blue box with ‘Eligibility’ written in it.
You will be able to search your name and identify whether you have competed in enough events or need to compete at Nunawading to be eligible for the final.

Events contested at the final: 100m, 1500m, Javelin, Discus, Long Jump, Pole Vault, 2000m Walk and 2000m/3000m Steeple.

Grill’d local matters jar

We are half way through having our club involved in the Grill’d local matters jar competition.

There is still time for you to have a healthy burger at Grill’d in the Doncaster Shoppingtown food court and contribute to the club.

Canberra Track Classic

The Canberra Classic was held on Thursday evening in driving rain, and two Doncaster athletes distinguished themselves. Kevin Rassool finally hit his straps with an impressive 47.15 for fourth place in the 400 metres, running from the outside lane.
Abbey Caldwell produced a stunning last lap to pick up second in the 1500 metres behind Linden Hall, running a PB 4:10.25. Her time also broke Suzie Power’s Open and Under 20 club records for that distance which have stood since 1995. Congratulations to both Kevin and Abbey on your performances.
