Round 1 – 13/11/2021
It’s been some time coming, but AVSL returned to Doncaster on Saturday. Having won the playoffs last season, Doncaster did creditably to finish third on the day, which is a good start.
There is no red zone this year, but just zone A and B, and the country zones, so there are more teams in zone A. The men’s team came third in zone A and fifth in the state, a commendable effort. The women were sixth in zone A and 14th in the state.
Special congratulations to evergreen Jim Poulter, now 80 years young, who broke the Victorian Record in the Pole Vault. His 1.75 isn’t far from the Australian record of 1.90, and it’s only the start of the season.
There were a number of others who moved up another age group, and set records.

- 100 metres: Wendy Smith (2nd), Allison Parrott (3rd)
- 200 metres: Paul Mierisch (6th)
- 800 metres: Campbell McLennan (3rd)
- 1500 metres: Allison Parrott (9th)
- 1500 walk: Kim Peak (9th)
- High Jump: Paul Mierisch (6th)
- Pole Vault: Darryl Kilmartin (4th) Jim Poulter (5th)
- Shot Put: Peter Coumaros (6th)
- Those to top the lists in Zone A include:
- M40+: Pole Vault Darryl Kilmartin
- W40+: 100m Wendy Smith, 1500m Allison Parrott
Paul Mierisch was our top scoring athlete with 1277 from his three events. David Firth came in next on 1179 and then Campbell McLennan 1099, Darryl Kilmartin 915, and Peter Coumaros 900.
