Round 4 – 4/12/2021
AVSL at Knox and Keilor produced difficult conditions for our athletes to navigate and Doncaster finished a bit further down the ladder in 6th. The men’s 40+ team finished fourth, which was an improvement, but still well behind Essendon and Diamond Valley. The men’s under 14 were also fourth.
The performance of the round came from Tom Reynolds who, despite the tricky conditions, broke the Under 18 400m club record with a time of 48.39. His time breaks the previous record of 48.44 which was set by James D’Alfonso in 2006.
Other notable performances included:
- Matthew Parrott running a national qualifying time and personal best in the Under 18 400m
- David Mitchell running a 3 second personal best in the Open 1500m
- And Alessandra Flynn running a half second personal best in the Under 18 Women’s 400m
We would also like to congratulate John Portwood who won the Mixed A 3000m at the Willinda 10k Classic on Tuesday 30th in a time of 8:50.10. John also won the B race at the Victorian 5000m Championships last night in a time of 15:05.74 while new member Jacob Gangi finished 9th in the D race in 17:49.57
We are back at Aberfeldie and Casey this Saturday before the last round at Knox and Epping prior to the Christmas/New Year break.
Track closure
Our track is now closed for resurfacing and upgrade works which are scheduled to be completed around late March-early April (depending on construction timelines and other external factors).
The upgrades have been a long time coming and will provide the club with an IAAF Level 2 certified track and field facility. This will put the club in a strong position to host specialist competitions including Victorian Milers Club, High Velocity Club as well as future Championship events.
Christmas Party
Our Christmas party is less than two weeks away and we would love to see as many of our members as possible!
When: Wednesday 15th of December
Where: Ruffey Lake Park – Meet in the car park off Victoria St
Time: 6pm – 8pm
We will also be presenting our 2020/21 season award winners with their trophies at this event.
After dinner, our traditional Christmas party games will be contested including musical chairs, the three legged race and the egg toss.
Please save the date and come along to what is always a relaxing and entertaining event.
Christmas Eve stations session
Every year, we conduct an annual session called ‘stations’ on Christmas Eve. A favourite of Tom Kelly’s, this session can be completed by anyone regardless of age, ability or fitness level and is a great way to finish a training block and head into the Christmas/New Year break.
When: Friday 24th of December (Christmas Eve)
Where: Schramms Reserve, JJ Tulley Drive. Located off Doncaster Rd behind the Manningham council chambers.
Time: 8am, meet under the pavilion at the top oval
All members and their families are welcome to attend this session to honour our mate Tom Kelly.

With a new club record in the M18 400 metres, Thomas Reynolds was the top scorer with 525. Luke Sinn scored 504 for his 1500 metres and Anthony Jordan 500 for his 100 metres. Brodie Mierisch and Alessia Wynne scored 485 for their discus and long jump.
Matthew Parrott was our top scoring athlete with 1279 from his three events, with Paul Mierisch narrowly shading son Brodie, 1239 to 1220. Eliza Chivers (1153), David Firth (1076), Campbell McLennan (1068), Lula Parrott (1008) and Darryl Kilmartin (1000) rounded out our top scorers. Thanks to all those who helped as officials and team managers.
