Round 5 – 11/12/2021

The tyranny of distance and the Melbourne Marathon made it very difficult for us this week. The fields at Casey, for all clubs except the locals, were very sparse and we didn’t have any extras at Aberfeldie to compensate. The ones who did attend did exceptionally well, with lots of records, including Jim Poulter beating the Victorian record he set a few weeks before.

Relays

The Victorian Relay Championships will be held on Australia Day, January 26, and we are looking to enter teams in this.

Melbourne Marathon festival results 

Over the weekend, we had three DAC members compete in the Melbourne half marathon.
Rob Shellie ran 1:28:36 placing 14th in the M45-49 category 
Navid Rashid ran 1:40:23 placing 40th in the M50-54 category 
Jim Finch ran 2:07:08 placing 47th in the M60-64 category 
Brendan Cullen ran the 10km event on the Saturday in 40:24

Renee Reardon completed the full Marathon in a time of 5:39:24

Those to top the lists in Zone A include:

Paul Mierisch was our top scoring athlete with 1267 ahead of Kim Peak and Peter Coumaros. We missed a couple of Kim’s records from last week, and she broke records in every event this week.

Hammer: David Firth (6th)

Shot Put: Peter Coumaros (8th)

Next week we have Darryl Kilmartin and Graham Ford competing at Meadowglen, with Kim Peak, Paul Mierisch, David Firth, Peter Coumaros, Wendy Smith competing at Aberfeldie, so numbers will be down. You have until Wednesday noon to enter.
