2021-12-11 Round 5

Doncaster Newsletter

Round 5 – 11/12/2021

Photos

The tyranny of distance and the Melbourne Marathon made it very difficult for us this week. The fields at Casey, for all clubs except the locals, were very sparse and we didn’t have any extras at Aberfeldie to compensate. So Doncaster slipped another place, though we are still well away from having to fight to retain our position in Premier division. Next year will be much better with our new track.

This weekend we have round 6 at Knox and Epping. We would love to see a massive turnout this weekend from our members for one final hit-out before the Christmas/New Year break. For field event sheets, there are still plenty of spots available in Long Jump at Knox and Triple Jump, Hammer Throw and Shot Put at Epping. Track events at both venues still have plenty of spaces available.

Entries close at midday this Wednesday, so be quick!

Christmas Party – This Wednesday!

The annual DAC Christmas Party is on this Wednesday!

Like last year, we will be providing rolls, drinks, fruit, snacks and desserts to our members as a thank you for your support of the club this season.

Where: Ruffey Lake Park, park in the car park off Victoria St on the eastern side of the park, and go up to the hill past the playground behind the flying fox.
When: Wednesday 15th (this Wednesday)
Time: 6pm – 8pm

During dinner, we will also be recognising our award winners from the 2020/21 season.

The traditional post dinner games of egg toss, the three legged race and musical chairs will still be held!

All members and their families are welcome to attend what is always a fantastic and relaxing way to finish the year.

Melbourne Marathon festival results

This morning, we had four DAC members compete in the Melbourne half marathon. Rob Shellie ran 1:28.36 while Navid Rashid ran 1:40.23. The Finch family were represented by Leah who ran 1:51.10, finishing in the top 500 females, and Jim Finch who ran 2:07.08 being ranked 47th in the Men’s 60-64 category

On Saturday, Joel Tobin-White finished 4th in the 10km in a time of 29:48, Alastair Christy was 8th in 31:20 while Anthony Paige finished 43rd in 37:11 and Patrick Ward finished in the top 700 participants with a time of 52:18.

Stations

Stations was a favourite session of Tom Kelly’s which was held on Christmas Eve, and we are continuing the tradition to remember Tom’s contribution to DAC.

When: Friday 24th of December (Christmas Eve)
Where: Schramms Reserve, JJ Tully Drive. Off Doncaster Rd, behind the Manningham Council chambers. Meet in front of the pavilion overlooking the top football oval from 7:45am.
Time: 8am (the session will likely finish around 9am)

The session can be completed by anyone, regardless of age or ability level and has been well attended by current and former members in previous years.

Equipment loans

Any athletes or coaches wishing to borrow equipment from the club for training purposes will need to contact our council liaison officer, Andrew Parrott (facilities@doncasterac.org.au).

Engaged!

We would like to give a special mention to long time DAC member and former 400m state champion, Kevin Rassool who recently announced his engagement to his university sweetheart, Laura Constable.

We wish Kevin and Laura all the very best for their future together.
