Round 6 – 18/12/2021
With no McLennans in sight, Doncaster did OK to finish in seventh position out of ten in Premier Division. A big thank you to the parents and athletes who assisted with our club helper duties at Epping on Saturday. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated by DAC, AV and the AV officials. Heading into the Christmas/New Year break, we remain in fifth place behind Essendon, Eaglehawk, Glenhuntly and Diamond Valley.
AVSL resumes on Saturday 15th of January with a twilight meet at Lakeside offering a mixed bag of events (100m, 800m, sprint hurdles, 3000m, 5000m, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and Hammer Throw).
It was the Under 14 Women who led the way this week, finishing second in the state but remaining on top of the Zone A ladder. The Under 18 Men and Under 14 Women remain second behind Western Athletics and Essendon in their respective Zone A ladders, the Under 16 Women are in third, while the 40+ Men, Under 20 Women, Under 18 Women and Under 16 Men are in fourth place in their Zone ladders.
Stations – Friday 24th
This Friday is the traditional ‘stations’ running session held to honour Tom Kelly’s memory.
When: Friday 24th of December
Where: Schramms Reserve, JJ Tully Drive, Doncaster. Located behind the Manningham Council chambers off Doncaster Rd.
Time: Meet at the front of the football club pavilion on the top oval from 7:45am for an 8am start.
Stations is a session which is similar to a ‘Seb Coe’ with longer reps and recovery. The session can be completed by anyone, regardless of age, fitness or ability level.
All current and former members and their families are welcome to come along and/or be involved in what is always a well-attended session.
Relay Championships – January 26th at Lakeside Stadium
Thank you to members who have already informed us about their availability for the Victorian Relay Championships.
We are still seeking expressions of availability which will help us organise teams to enter for the championships.
If you have not let us know your availability to compete, please contact our team manager David Mitchell (registrar@doncasterac.org.au).
Powerplay
We are strongly considering using our Powerplay in Round 8 of AVSL on Saturday 22nd of January when competition is being held at Aberfeldie and Duncan MacKinnon. Using our powerplay will double our ladder points for that round, which could significantly close the gap between us and Diamond Valley in the Premier Division ladder. A final decision will be made in the new year and will be communicated to our athlete members.

Declan Carmen was our top scorer with 538 in the discus. Anthony Jordan was the only other one over 300 with 513. Newcomer Bella Fray scored 490 in the 800 metres with Matthew Parrott and David Firth over 460.
Eliza Chivers was our top scoring athlete with 1452 from her three events, with Paul Mierisch narrowly shading his son Brodie, 1176 to 1175. David Firth was the only other one over 1000 with 1045, with Darryl Kilmartin on 973, Lula Parrot on 966 and Allegria Basile on 961. Thanks to all those who helped as officials and team managers.
