Round 8 – 26/01/2022
Another great result for Doncaster in round 8 moving into fourth place, ensuring we will not have to fight to hold our position in Premier Division in the Playoffs. Athletes stepped up for our Power Play, as demonstrated by the number of athletes who hit their event limit.
For the first time, Mens Under 16 topped A Zone while the Womens Under 14 were third in the state and the Mens 40+ fifth.
We also had two athletes compete in the AV Throwers meet at Sandringham on Sunday. Declan Carman won the Men’s Discus, throwing 55.39m on his fifth attempt and Jessica Nolan finished second in the Women’s Javelin with a best throw of 26.56m.
And, a special mention to Zach Nunis who is competing in the US college system for the University of Idaho. On Sunday, Zach won the long jump competition in the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open with a best performance of 7.44m.
Today, we have the Victorian Relay Championships being held at Lakeside Stadium. With over twenty teams entered across all age groups, we are anticipating some great results. The competition will also act as a curtain raiser event to the Zatopek:10 competition being held this evening. Abbey Caldwell will be in action in the Open 1500m, our Open Men’s 4x400m team will also be in action in the final and Joel Tobin-White is contesting the main event, the Australian 10,000m championship.
And this weekend, we have nineteen athletes competing in a range of events in the Victorian Country Championships.
Athletes to finish top 10 in the state over all age groups in Premier division were:
200m: Thomas Reynolds (9th)
1500m: Lili Pertzel (10th)
200m hurdles: Shakira Harding (5th), Jamison Harding (9th)
400m hurdles: Nicole Reynolds (4th), Chris Butterworth (10th)
1500m walk: Laura McLennan (5th), Kim Peak (8th), Lula Parrott (9th), Lewis McLennan (10th)
2000m steeplechase: Josh Ascar (2nd), Eliza Chivers (5th)
3000m steeplechase: David Mitchell (2nd)
Pole Vault: Tahlia Grace (7th)
Javelin Throw: Jessica Nolan (11th)
Discus Throw: Brodie Mierisch (5th)
Those to top the lists in Zone A include:

W40+ Discus Throw Laura McLennan

Brodie Mierisch was our highest scoring athlete with 507 for the discus throw, the only one over 500. Thomas Reynolds (200), Tahlia Grace (Pole Vault), Josh Ascar (2000 steeplechase) and Paul Mierisch (200) weren’t far away.
Brodie Mierisch was our top scoring athlete with 1279 from Josh Ascar (1200), with Paul Mierisch on 1156. Jasmine Smith scored 1129 with Laura McLennan on 1050 and Lula Parrott on 1021. Thanks to all those who helped as officials and team managers.
