Victorian Relay Championships– 26/01/2022
This week was the Victorian Relay Championships, and the Doncaster 40+ teams did well. The women were the standouts, being the only DAC team to win. Competing against a strong team from Chilwell, Renee Reardon pulled back a 40 metre deficit and burst through down the final straight to give Laura McLennan a 30 metre lead. Against a much faster opponent, Laura was then able to hold on for a courageous win. The women also picked up two bronze medals.
The men found the opposition much stronger this year. Essendon had a much stronger team than last year in the 40+, and DAC did well to come away with two silvers. Box Hill had been recruiting this year, and ended up breaking the Victorian record for the 50+ 4×400. Our 50+ team had only one sprinter, and marathon runner, Rod De Highden, made a valiant effort to try and catch the third place team in the 4×100 to pull a hamstring, and so was unable to complete his leg in the distance medley.

Victorian Country Championships – 28/1/2022 to 30/1/2022
Three Doncaster athletes went to Bendigo on the weekend for the Country Championships and did Doncaster proud. Jim Poulter, having equalled the Australian pole vault record recently, now has it to himself. Of course he was competing in the M60 section.
