Victorian T&F Championships Week 2 25/2/22-26/2/22

Photos

The second weekend of the Victorian Championships was even more successful than the first, with six golds as opposed to the four from the first weekend. The highlight was two quinellas: Alessia Wynne and Petra Edwards winning gold and silver respectively in the Under 20 Long Jump, and Jamison Harding and Allegria Basile going 1-2 in the Under 14 Pole Vault. Quite a remarkable achievement.

Other golds were won by Rachel White in the Under 16 3000 metres, Anthony Jordan won the Open Para 200m title, Jessica Nolan threw a Personal Best and National Qualifier to win the Under 15 Javelin Throw and Declan Carman broke his own club record with a performance of 56.43m in the Open Discus.

Other notable performances included:

  • Brave runs from Peter Holland (Under 18) and Will Katic (Under 16) resulting in silver medals for their respective 800m races.
  • Our recent history of excellent performances in the 200m/400m hurdles continued with Nicole Reynolds winning Bronze in the Open Women’s 400m Hurdles while the Harding sisters, Shakira (Under 16) and Jamison (Under 14) won silver and bronze medals respectively.
  • And Lachlan Parrott earned family bragging rights with a silver medal in the Under 20 Long Jump and finishing sixth in the highly competitive Open Long Jump competition.

For many of our athletes, their focus now turns to the Australian Athletics Championships being held in Sydney at the end of March. And with AV providing competitions at Vic Milers, High Velocity, AV Throwers and Rare Air, there are plenty of opportunities for all our members to sharpen up or have a final crack at a PB before the winter season.

Also, a huge thank you to the parents who assisted with our club helper duties over the weekend: Avanthi Selvaratnam, Jay Pertzel, John McCool, David Wynne, Deb Caldwell and Andy Parrott. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Track works update

Late last month, the DAC committee was advised that due to supply chain issues and other COVID related factors, the track resurfacing project has been delayed.

We have been given a new tentative reopening of May 2022, date TBC.

Whilst this is unfortunate, these circumstances are outside of our control. We will communicate with Box Hill and Nunawading athletics clubs about their ability to accommodate DAC squads where possible until the project has been completed.

On a more positive note, all light towers have been installed and our new competition standard lights are fully functioning. This will provide DAC with an exciting opportunity to host competitions such as Victorian Milers Club, Rare Air Club and twilight/night AVSL competitions.

March important dates:

Thursday 10th – Victorian Milers Club, Duncan MacKinnon
Saturday 12th – High Velocity Club and AV Throwers, Geelong
Thursday 17th – High Velocity Club, Lakeside Stadium
Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th – Victorian Masters T&F Championships, Lakeside Stadium
Thursday 24th – Box Hill Classic (1500m and 3000m), Box Hill
