Another week of performances by Doncaster athletes with a few competitions being contested at the tail end of the season. 

During the Labor Day long weekend, the LAV state championships were held and a dozen DAC juniors contested the event with some notable performances:

  • Nash Chandler won gold in the 15 years 100m hurdles in 13.71 
  • Shakira Harding showed her versatility over both 15 years hurdles distances, winning gold in the 300m hurdles and silver in the 90m hurdles. Younger sister Jamison also won bronze in the 13 years 80m hurdles 
  • Rachel White claimed silver in the 15 years 1500m in 4:49.11 
  • Lucy Kearney won bronze in the 14 years 800m in 2:24.57 
  • And in the field, Jessica Nolan continued her purple patch of form, winning silver in 14 years Javelin with a best performance of 38.99m 

Thursday 17th saw our sprinters have a final hit-out at the High Velocity competition at Lakeside Stadium before the national championships. 

Oscar Sweeney rounded out his season by winning the Men’s D 100m in 11.31 while Lachlan Parrott did the 1-2 double, winning the Men’s F 100m and 200m in 11.47 and 23.82 respectively. 

In the field events, Eliza Chivers finished second in the High Jump with a best clearance of 1.50m and Alessia Wynne finished second in the Long Jump with her second jump measuring 5.57m. 

And last Saturday night, we had two DAC athletes compete in the Melbourne Track Classic. 

Jack Dalton contested the Hillardt Under 15 1500m, finishing fifth in 4:17.63 and Abbey Caldwell ran a controlled race to win the Open 1500m in 4:09.07. 

Tomorrow, we have some athletes competing in the Box Hill Classic before the Australian Athletics Championships begin in Sydney this Saturday.
