Round 3 – 22/10/2022

Older Doncaster athletes went on a record-breaking spree on Saturday. First off was Lydia Rinaudo on her first stint on the track (she did run cross-country), taking a minute and a half off the W40 1500 metres record. An amazing achievement. She also easily broke the 400 metres record.

Talking of the 400 metres, Paul Mierisch smashed his own M45 record and Mark Purser also beat his M50 record. Only problem was, Campbell McLennan, in the next race, bettered that time and Warren Hattwich, ran even faster! Trouble is, Warren doesn’t actually turn 50 for another month, so he’ll have to wait before he gets another chance. New member, David Vaughan, then proceeded to beat the original record, but not the new record, although he is in the next age group (M55)! Looks like we’ll have a M50+ relay team the other clubs will envy.

Laura McLennan and Kim Peak both broke walk records, while evergreen Jim Poulter broke his long jump record and David Firth, Campbell McLennan and Darryl Kilmartin were also record breakers. Unfortunately, Kim tweeked her hamstring in the 100 metres.

The 40+ teams certainly pulled their weight, coming third and fourth in the state. A great effort!

Thanks to Sue Kilmartin, who helped on the BBQ as she was unable to run.

All results below after a few community announcements !

Did you know ?

If you enter an event that you no longer want to compete in, you can withdraw by sending an email to sportdelivery@athsvic.org.au – this helps everyone.  If it is a track event, it means there will not be an empty lane and if a field event, more places are then available for athletes wanting to compete. If the field event was full, they can then allocate someone from the waitlist. All helping the day to run more smoothly.

Helpers

A big shout out to those that helped this week and last week with setup and pack up of the track and equipment, thanks to those who assisted on the BBQ cooking & serving sausages and burgers, thanks to those who did duty on Hammer last week and those who helped in the canteen. We are always grateful for assistance provided and appreciate it when people step up to assist when there is a task to do.

A big THANK YOU to David Mitchell for all his work as Summer Co-ordinator each week which also means managing people for duty, ensuring food and drink for officials, and many other unseen tasks.
