AVSL Round 2 – 14/10/2023

After the slow opening round, Doncaster came back with a vengeance on their home ground, coming third behind the might of Diamond Valley and Eaglehawk, and well ahead of Essendon, who won two years ago. Almost every division climbed the ladder, with the Women’s Under 14 coming second in the state to Eaglehawk, ahead of Diamond Valley.

Jessica Nolan was our highest scoring athlete with 506 for her Javelin with Emily McKinley scoring 504 for her Shot Put, 485 for her Discus and 484 for her Javelin.  With these scores, Emily McKinley was easily our highest aggregate winner with 1,473 with Allegria Basile on 1,311, Campbell McLennan on 1,295, Brodie Mierisch on 1,272, Lewis McLennan on 1,097 and Sofia Marmarasturner on 1,072. It is particularly pleasing to see so many of our younger athletes scoring well in multiple events.

The day was blustery, but a tailwind at Tom Kelly Athletic track favored the sprinters on the front straight!  The middle-distance runners and 400m athletes had their work cut out for them!  4 relay teams featured for DAC, and it was great to see a number of newcomers, and returned athletes having the confidence to step out on the track!  Welcome to our Newcomers; Zachery Wong, Sophie Field, Christal Xie, Samaya Uecker, Katrina Cheung, Sofia Marmarasturner, Giselle Uecker, Teiva Levy, Olivia Collett, Talise Botha, Eamon Wright, Hayden Lloyd, Riley Neecowen and Kamil Hegazi, great to have you join us!

Congratulations to All who competed in Round 2!  It was great to see more athletes back in action!  A huge thank you to a number of members who stepped forward to assist as volunteer officials.  Some of them assisted the entire day, others competed and assisted in between events; Graham Ford, Sera Basile, Kath Gawthorn, Julie O’Neil, Wendy Smith, Dave Mitchell, Emma Peake, Vanessa Botha, Matt Christie, Darryl Kilmartin, Campbell McLennan, Andrew Parrott, and Alessia Wynne.  It was a huge team effort!  We hope to see everyone again in Round 3.
