Round 8 – 13/01/2024

With AVSL back at Doncaster on Saturday, DAC again finished fifth. Some athletes were still on holidays, but the Men’s 40+ and Women’s under 14 teams both finished fourth in the state. In the Men’s Under 20 it was a big welcome back to para–Commonwealth Games athlete, Anthony Jordan, and state 100 yards champion Matthew Parrott.

The highest scoring athlete was Josh Ascar, with an outstanding six minutes for the 2000 metres steeplechase, scoring 545 points! Not far behind was Jamison Harding scoring 538 for her pole vault and para-Commonwealth Games athlete Anthony Jordan scoring 507 for his 100 metres. Riley Neecowen made an impressive debut for the club, running under 50 seconds for the 400 metres to score 496. 

Our most successful athlete was Alessia Wynne with 1,369 points. Young Lewis McLennan had a big win, finishing ahead of his father for the first time on 1,141 points to Campbell’s 1,126. He was top in the state in the walk and hammer, and second in the javelin. Masters David Vaughan and David Firth followed close behind with 1,075 and 1,056, with Josh Ascar on 1,001 from his two events.

High Velocity Meet – 6th January 

On January 6, several Doncaster athletes headed to Lakeside for the High Velocity meeting. Thomas Reynolds, currently the leading quarter miler in Australia this season, and ran an impressive 46.89.

It was a busy weekend, with Matt Christy going to Geelong to compete in the Surf Coast Track Meet, running an impressive 33:42.58 for the 10,000 metres.
