2020-01-18 AVSL Round 10

Doncaster Newsletter

For the tenth round of shield, Doncaster was scheduled to go to Werribee, but most attended Ringwood, which featured the finals program. It was a good day for Doncaster, finishing second to the ladder leaders, Nunawading, who didn’t have to travel far either. This makes it harder to get to the top, but second position is much more secure.

The Men’s Open team had another big win, as did the Under 16 and Under 14. The Women’s Under 18 and Under 14 also won, a much better result than the previous round.

The leader board for Division 2 now stands:

  1. Nunawading 92
  2. Doncaster 88
  3. Mornington 84
  4. Eaglehawk 84

Owen Rice was our best scorer with 515 points for the M16 hammer throw, while Mariah Pezos scored 503 for the F14 discus throw. Wes Spargo (MOP 400 hurdles), Alessia Wynne (F18 200 metres) and Ethan Sinn (M18 800 metres) weren’t far behind. Though not a PB, Wes was pleased to defeat Matthew Harcourt who defeated him the previous week. He also was the best performed of the 200 metres sprinters.

Athletes to top the state in their Division 2 groups included Tristan Robinson (MOP 400 metres), Alastair Christy (MOP 1500 metres), Graham Ford (M65 300 hurdles), Wes Spargo (MOP 400 hurdles) and Ashton Sinn (M14 2000 Steeplechase). Athletes to top the state in their age groups were Alastair Christy (MOP 1500 metres), Liam McLennan (M16 2000 metres walk), Ashton Sinn (M14 2000 Steeplechase) and Steph Larkin (FOP 400 hurdles).

There is no AVSL competition next weekend due to the Australia Day long weekend, AVSL will resume on Saturday 1st of February at Doncaster which will be hosting the AVSL final program. Entries are likely to open this coming Wednesday 22nd and we strongly encourage athletes wanting to compete in field events to pre-enter ASAP as they fill up fast.

AVSL Final: Saturday 22nd of February

We are on track to qualify for the AVSL Final which has undergone a restructure.
Previously, teams have qualified based on their age groups. This year, athletes compete as one club, meaning all athletes who meet the qualifying criteria (must have competed in four rounds of AVSL + competed once in the events contested at the AVSL final) will be competing at the final.

Events contested at the AVSL Final are: 200m, 800m, 3000m, 1500m/3000m Walk, 400m/300m/200m Hurdles, 4x100m, Hammer Throw, Shot Put, Triple Jump and High Jump. If you have competed in any of these events during the season, you will be eligible for selection in the team.

Athletes will only be allowed to enter four events each plus the 4x100m. Further details and entry information will be released in due course. If you have any questions, please email our summer coordinator David Mitchell (summer.coordinator@doncasterac.org.au)
