2018-10-20 Shield Round 3

Doncaster Newsletter

The third round of Shield competition saw Doncaster eclipse Collingwood in the Men’s Open competition for the first time. This was mainly due to some of the sprinters having their first run, so hopefully this will continue. The Women’s under 20 team also defeated Diamond Valley for the first time. After wins against Diamond Valley in Men’s under 16 and Women’s under 18 last week, Diamond Valley reasserted their dominance, but there is potential for Doncaster to reverse this by the end of the season if athletes keep fronting up.

This week’s standout performance came from Nicole Reynolds who ran a national qualifying time in the Under 20 400m Hurdles at Williamstown, even more remarkable is that this was Nicole’s first attempt at the event since transitioning from the 100m Hurdles.
Other notable performances include:

Caleb McLennan running a 1.2 second PB in the Under 16 800m
Haimish Lazaro running a PB in the Open 3000m
And Melissa Niewoudt running a PB in the Under 20 1500m

After three rounds of Shield our Under 14 Men continue to set the pace in their age group, the Open Men are still in second but have closed the gap to leaders Collingwood, while our 40+ Men, Under 20 Women, Under 18 Women and Under 16 Men are in second but still in touch with Diamond Valley in their respective ladders. The Under 14 Women have fallen 5 points behind second in their competition, the Under 18 Men have slipped to 4th in their ladder and unfortunately our Open Women are on the bottom of the ladder due to not having any athletes compete on the weekend.

Competition is back at Doncaster this weekend where we hope to see another massive turnout of DAC athletes and their families for what promises to be another strong display by our athletes on their home track.
