2021-01-22/24 Australia Day Weekend

Doncaster Newsletter

Australia Day weekend – 22-24/01/2021

The long weekend provided many of us with an opportunity to holiday or spend a relaxing weekend at home. For some Doncaster athletes, this was a weekend of competition. Fourteen athletes travelled up to Ballarat to compete in the Victorian Country Track & Field Championships. Standout performances included:

  • Tahlia Grace vaulting to a new club record of 2.85m in the Under 16 Pole Vault
  • Stephanie Larkin running a PB in the Open 400m and unofficially claiming her third consecutive Open 400m hurdles country championship
  • And David Mitchell running a second consecutive sixteen second PB in the Open 3000m Steeplechase

This coming weekend sees our relay teams in action at Box Hill athletics track in the Victorian Relay Championships. With twenty-two teams entered, the championships are looking to be another successful competition for the club. If you are able to come down to support, we’d love to see you there.

AVSL resumes on Saturday 6th at Doncaster and Knox. Pre-entries are likely to open around 2pm tomorrow so please make sure to get in early particularly if you want to compete in a field event.

Zatopek – Tuesday 26th

Don’t forget the annual Zatopek competition this afternoon!

We have five DAC members competing in this event:

  • Josh Maisey in the Zatopek 10,000m national championship.
  • Abbey Caldwell in the Under 20 Ondiecki Women’s 3000m
  • Stephanie Larkin and Nicole Reynolds in the Open Women’s 400m Hurdles
  • And Connor Gist in the Open Women’s 800m

A livestream of the event will be provided via the Athletics Australia page on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/AthsAust?fbclid=IwAR3qKNruN9BC_9Gn7SfHVHkk-Gvj7eM57aWa9-PbHwXs-zQa1XljOy0fXvM
