2021-03-03 Victorian Championships week 2

Doncaster Newsletter – 3/3/2021

Week two of the Victorian Championships produced more outstanding results for Doncaster, with our athletes winning six gold, six silver and four bronze medals. This resulted in the club winning a total of thirteen gold, nine silver, seven bronze medals and four club records across both weekends of the championships. We also had twenty athletes place in finals across the second weekend, showcasing the amazing quality of our athletes at the club.

Petra Edwards (U18 Long Jump), Alessia Wynne (U20 Long Jump) and Anthony Jordan (U17 Para Long Jump and 200m) won gold medals for a second week in succession, Tahlia Grace claimed the Under 15 Pole Vault title (breaking five of her own club records in the process), while Jamison Harding claimed her first state title in the Under 14 Pole Vault, all the more remarkable considering she injured her wrist a few days prior!

A special mention to Jamison’s older sister Shakira Harding, who despite placing second in the Under 15 200m hurdles, broke the club record held by J. Harvey which has stood since 1993! We would also like to give a special mention to Tom Reynolds. Last week, Tom’s performance of 49.25 in the Under 18 Men’s 400m final (as a sixteen-year-old), broke the Under 17 Men’s 400m club record, which was set in 1997!

Finally, a big thank you to Ben Jordan, John Nicolussi, Wendy Smith, Kim Peak and Darryl Kilmartin who assisted us with our club helper duties at Long Jump on the Saturday. Your help is sincerely appreciated.

AVSL returns to Doncaster this Saturday! There are only three rounds left before the final on Saturday the 27th and every event is important for us to qualify for the final! Please make sure you save the below dates for the remaining rounds, and the final so we have the best chance to contend against Essendon and either Box Hill or Glenhuntly.

Saturday 13th AVSL Round 9 – Nunawading and Aberfeldie (Entries now open!!!)
Saturday 20th AVSL Round 10 – Doncaster and Nunawading (Powerplay round)
Saturday 27th AVSL Final – Lakeside Stadium

Grill’d Local Matters Jar

Don’t forget we have a local matters jar available for donations at Grill’d Doncaster! Pop into Grill’d at the Doncaster Shoppingtown food court, have a healthy burger for the club and use your Grill’d token to donate to the DAC jar!
