40+ Results

40+ – Round 7:

The latest round of Shield was the Nitro round, and being at our track, it was well supported. Of course, holding it the day before the Zatopek meant some of our top athletes were unavailable.

It was a different competition, with unusual distances and bonus points for the field events – if you landed the shot or javelin in a 30 cm strip, if you landed within 5 cm of your nominated distance in the long jump, or managed four high jumps without a miss. It was all done with goodwill and any bonus performance was applauded by all.

Earlier in the week there was a miler’s meet and Mark Purser broke his M50 1500 record with 5:00.8.

Once again the 40+ team was the largest and scored far more points than any other age group, only narrowly going down to Diamond Valley and finishing third in the state. Once again it was athletes running multiple events that did it for Doncaster. As usual, Paul Mierisch was the top scorer with 1455 points and also ran in an open relay. Darryl Kilmartin, Graham Ford, Campbell McLennan and David Firth also scored more than 1000 points.

The highlight for the Doncaster president was running a 2 x 2 x 400 with his wife, Laura. Well done Campbell and Laura!
