Round 9 of the Shield Competition saw a big win to the Doncaster Men in red zone, coming second to Essendon State wide. In doing this they defeated Eaglehawk and Glenhuntly, who are well clear at the top of the table. Doncaster are now less than 400 points behind Diamond Valley having gained almost 1400.

The Women also had a good day, coming a narrow second to Preston and defeating the mighty Diamond Valley for the first time. Kath and Laura competed in three events while Charmaine scored over 1000 points doing four.

With Paul Mierisch only competing in three events and still scoring over 1000 points, Graham Ford lead the side with 1511.  Campbell McLennan, Darryl Kilmartin, David Firth and Paul Mierisch all scoring more than 1000.

Getting to the pointy end of the season there were a number of records set. Charmaine Smith was the big improver equalling her high jump record, and not bothering to try and break it, and breaking records in the other three events. Darryl Kilmartin set new records in the high jump and 400 hurdles and broke his record in the triple, while Graham Ford broke his record in the high jump. Kath Gawthorn broke her record in the 800 and set a new one in the 3000 metres, while Laura McLennan broke her record in the 3000 metres walk.

Ringwood next week, and again the Shield final program.
